The 26-year-old has agreed a five-year deal with the Blues, but will remain at Ajax until the end of the season
Hakim Ziyech says Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was a major reason behind his decision to move to Stamford Bridge.
The attacker played against his future side twice in the group stages of this season’s Champions League, and was heavily involved in three of their goals in the 4-4 draw between the sides at Stamford Bridge back in November.
When asked how influential Lampard was in getting the deal done, Ziyech replied : “[Lampard had] a big role. We had a lot of contact in the last couple of weeks and he gave me a good feeling and that was also big to do with the decision.”
The 26-year-old expressed his delight at finally agreeing personal terms with the Blues, and also noted his soon-to-be manager’s style of play as another key motive behind his switch to the Premier League side.
‘I’m happy, proud, I am excited, and I cannot wait,” Ziyech continued.
“It [Chelsea] is a big club in a big competition. I like the style of play, they play really attacking football, and that is something that fits me and that is one of the biggest reasons I chose to come.”
The winger has six goals and 12 assists in the Eredivisie this season, helping his side to top spot in the table after 23 games.
He also leads the way for Champions League assists this campaign with five, but looks set to be overtaken after the Dutch outfit failed to qualify for the knockout stages, placing third in Group H behind Valencia and Chelsea respectively.
“First of all to enjoy it with the people here [at Ajax], the team-mates and the people we work with, the trainers and everybody around the club,” he added.
“The most important thing is to enjoy it and win the trophies we have to win.”
