Jack Grealish ‘rethinking Man City transfer’ due to Aston Villa signings and bit-part England role at Euro 2020 – ‘It’s not clear cut’

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish may be rethinking a transfer to Manchester City due to concerns over his playing time at the club, talkSPORT transfer guru Alex Crook believes.

City have arguably the best squad depth in the league, with a host of top attacking players in the playmaking positions.

Grealish may fear he could be a bit-part player at the Etihad and could decide to stick around as the main man at his boyhood club Villa, having felt disappointed with his lack of playing time for England at Euro 2020.

The 25-year-old is also said to be excited by Villa’s new arrivals this summer, with Emi Buendia joining for a club-record £33million fee and Bayer Leverkusen ace Leon Bailey most recently linked with the club

Crook told talkSPORT: “Manchester City were very confident they would be able to get a deal done, £100m the fee.

“That’s big money for a club like Aston Villa, but they aren’t particularly cash-strapped.

“But I think he’s been quietly impressed with the business they’ve been doing.

“They signed Buendia and they’re looking to bring in Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen so I wonder if that’s altered his thinking.

“Maybe his role at the European Championship – or lack of as he was a back-up player – has perhaps made him rethink going to sit on the bench at Manchester City.

“It’s not as clear cut as it was a couple weeks ago.”
