Jadon Sancho goes ‘full Steve McClaren’ with funny German accent as Man United transfer target adds to stats and explains goal celebration

Jadon Sancho appeared to speak with a German accent in a post-match interview at the weekend and eagle-eyed viewers remarked he had gone ‘full Steve McClaren’ – or should that be ‘Schteve’?

Sancho and Borussia Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland were unstoppable on Saturday as they helped record a 4-0 thumping over Bundesliga basement boys Schalke in the Rivierderby.

Haaland can’t stop scoring for Dortmund at the moment and produced another stunning display in the German top flight on Saturday.

England international – and south Londonder – Sancho had opened the scoring for his side after 42 minutes and became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to reach 35 goals.

He then provided an assist to his teammate when he clipped in a ball to Haaland who then produced an incredible scissor kick from around 12 yards out.

The Norway striker, who looks unstoppable at the moment, added another in the second half.

However, it was his English colleague who stole the headlines after the match during an interview with the Bundesliga production team after the game as he explained his passionate celebration.

Just like Steve McClaren and Joey Barton before him, Sancho could be heard injecting a foreign twist into his usual London accent to create a somewhat Anglo-Saxon hybrid which sounded hilarious.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Love Jadon Sancho but he’s gone full Schteve McClaren with his interview here…

“He’s putting on that voice everyone uses when you go on holiday and the taxi guy asks where you’re from and how long you’re staying for!”

But Joey Barton, who provided the entertainment during a Marseille press conference, joined to talkSPORT after his appointment as Bristol Rovers manager to recall his experience of talking to foreign media.

“You’ll find yourself doing it on holiday – we’ve all done it. I laughed when I saw it, as when you’re abroad and you see it you just can’t help it,” the former Manchester City and QPR player said.

“As stupid as my video is and as stupid as I sound, you just have to laugh.

“When I saw Jadon do it you’ve just got to laugh. No-one’s made a bigger fool of it than me on my one, and certainly Steve McClaren.

“It’s great when someone else does it as it brings the other ones out of the woodwork.”

Sancho, 20, has been linked with a move to Manchester United, could be seen patting his badge during his wild derby celebrations and explained his outburst of emotion.

“I know for this club that this game is everything,” he said. “So I knew today that was a big one for the fans.

“Especially because they can’t celebrate it with us, I had to show to the camera that it was very important to us.

“I’m just very happy and delighted for the win. We just have to carry on this form for the next game.”

Both Sancho and Erling Haaland – who cost less than £30m combined – have been linked with moves away from the club this summer and Manchester United is one possible destination.

“We’ve got a plan to become a very successful Man United team – and a team that top players want to play for,” United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said.

“It’s down to us to keep improving and getting closer to the trophies. I can’t say anything about individuals. But we’ve got the backing.”
