Josh Warrington has divulged that Anthony Joshua opened up to him about his defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr in their recent FaceTime conversation.
The former IBF featherweight champion was shockingly beaten by Mexico’s massive underdog Mauricio Lara earlier this month – something AJ was able to relate to.
Joshua suffered a similar fate against Andy Ruiz Jr back in 2019.
It is understood that Warrington is now planning on taking the rematch with Lara.
This is exactly what Joshua did against Ruiz, outboxing the Mexican in their second fight to regain his titles.
AJ posted an image on himself talking to Warrington on FaceTime on Wednesday evening and captioned it: “You know what you gotta do. I got your back champ.”
Warrington put up an image from his perspective with the caption: “Boxing school with Anthony Joshua. Lesson number one – Bouncing back after getting KOd by a Mexican. Thanks for the call big man.”
Warrington has revealed to reporters about the conversation: “He was telling me things like, ‘Make sure you have your down time, make sure you dwell because when you do come back from that the only way is up. As long as you have the fire in your belly and want to right them wrongs.’
“It was like he was giving me a bit of a psychology session, you feel like you want to get back after it.
“He was telling me a story when he was in New York and after the [Andy Ruiz Jr] fight him and his entourage went for a walk and this guy goes, ‘Hey Anthony, why the f*** did you get beat up by that fat Mexican?’ and his head went down.
“He went back to the apartment and stayed there for a few days, he said he cried, he ate ice cream, he sulked but once he came back he was ready to get back on the horse.”
