Leeds stars pay touching tribute to Kalvin Phillips’ grandmother ‘Granny Val’ following win over Southampton

Leeds United stars paid tribute to Kalvin Phillips’ grandmother following their 3-0 Premier League win over Southampton on Tuesday.

Val Crosby, also known as Granny Val, became popular with Leeds fans after starring in the Amazon Prime documentary, Take Us Home, which chronicled Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion-winning season to the Premier League last year.

Val sadly passed away last week with Phillips absent from the team for their last two games.

The whole squad held up a shirt with the name ‘Granny Val’ on the back following the final whistle of their victory over the Saints.

After the game, Patrick Bamford said: “It’s a tight-knit bunch of lads and anyone who watched the documentary on Amazon saw that Granny Val was a big part of the club indirectly.

“Loads of people have grown to love her without really knowing her. It’s a big loss and that one was for Kalvin and his family.”

Patrick Bamford’s 13th Premier League goal of the season, Stuart Dallas and the impressive Raphinha’s free-kick lifted Marcelo Bielsa’s side above Arsenal and up to 10th, one point behind Tottenham.

The Saints’ winless league run was extended to eight matches and had Leeds not been so wasteful in front of goal, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side would have lost by a bigger margin.
