It’s a big occasion for Tottenham in their £1billion home – the first boxing event held at the new stadium.

And, despite taking on north London rivals Arsenal on Sunday, Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo will not deny his players the chance to watch it.

Staying in a nearby hotel ahead of their crunch derby clash, Santo said his squad have his permisson to tune in.

“The players can watch the fight if they want. I will watch it if I can,” he said.

“It’s a special moment for us. I think the first time our stadium will have an attendance of 66,000 people. That’s huge.”

With a knockout tie set to take place in the Premier League on Sunday, both Santo and his counterpart Mikel Arteta are hoping to land the vital punch to alleviate pressure on their jobs.

The Portuguese manager, who replaced Jose Mourinho as Tottenham boss in the summer, started brightly but has since lost his last two matches in the league and heavily too – 3-0 in back-to-back games against Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Arteta has acheived similar results for Arsenal but in opposite fashion.

Three straight defeats scoring zero to begin the season put the former player under immense scrutiny but he has since stabilised the ship with hard fought 1-0 wins against Norwich City and Burnley.

While neither Nuno’s team nor the Gunners are currently competing at a level they have in recent seasons, but the rivalry is a fierce one and it remains one of the biggest fixtures of the campaign.

“It’s not another game. It’s a special game,” Nuno said. “A special game for us, a special game for our fans. It’s going to be a tough match but no doubt, it’s a different game.

“I had many, many situations in derbies but this is a new one, a tough one and a good one, a special one for our fans. If it’s special for our fans, it’s very special for us.

“We expect a tough match and for us, we have to compete, we have to play and compete well. Give everything that we can and play good.

“Playing good is finding the right balance in our game. Improvements to be made but a lot of positives that we take from the previous games, so let’s keep on going.”
